A scientific literature review has looked at over 37 studies and 406,910 subjects and found that drinking soda or consuming artificially sweetened foods and drinks may increase body weight. Over the course of months and years, these foods will increase body weight, abdominal fat and BMI. The reason is possibly due to these foods increasing the subjects’ appetite. Literature review has found that sweeteners (e.g. aspartame and sucralose) elevated the risks of hypertension, stroke and cardia disease. It is currently not clear how sweeteners cause these health issues. If you are looking for refreshing beverage, try to consume unsweetened tea or just plain water to stay healthy.
