When we eat, our bodies convert most of the food we eat into glucose. The body automatically secretes the right amount of insulin to help glucose enter the cells as an energy source. People without diabetes have a stable concentration of blood glucose.
People with diabetes may have impaired ability to produce insulin, or insulin resistance caused by poor insulin performance. This prevents glucose from entering cells and results in elevated levels of glucose in the blood. This is known as diabetes.
